  • Stop SB 590

Tell your State Senator: NO on SB 590

SB 590 would turn Missouri into Alabama. When Alabama passed this legislation last year, it caused their state to get locked in an expensive legal battle. Teachers, school administrators and police officers in Missouri would be forced to take on immigration control, a task of the federal government.  Any documented immigrant could be charged with a Class C Misdemeanor for not carrying their immigration papers. This bill would have major consequences for documented immigrants and naturalized citizens too.

Tell your State Senator: NO on SB 590!

  • Oppose SB1! No Right to Work for Less in Missouri!

Act Now! Oppose Right to Work for Less!

Anti-Union bill drives down wages for ALL Missourians

SB 1 will make Missouri an “open-shop” state, forcing dues-paying union members to shoulder the burden for nonmembers working at the exact same job. Under current Missouri law, all workers represented under a union contract must pay dues to the union.

Big Business has been trying to use union workers as a scapegoat instead of focusing on concrete job creation. States with “Right to Work for Less” have higher poverty levels, higher workplace deaths, and even higher infant mortality.

Find out more about the negative effects of “Right-to-Work-for-Less”

SB1 is on the Missouri Senate floor right now!

Email your state Senator using the template below. Follow the instructions to find out their contact information.

  • I Pledge to 'Decline to Sign' Everything Tax initiative-petition

We do not want our state income tax eliminated and replaced with a higher, more widespread sales tax. Sales taxes would be tacked onto health care, rent, child care, and almost all other goods and services. This regressive tax would would cause most working people to wind up paying more than their fair share of taxes.

  • Keep Seniors and People with Disabilities in Their Homes

You Can Help Keep  Disabled Missourians and Seniors in Their Homes

Tell your Legislators: Don't risk the lives of vulnerable Missourians.

Missouri legislators are considering stripping away important financial support from some seniors and people with disabilities. The proposal would eliminate a "circuit breaker" tax credit that currently helps keep some of the most vulnerable Missourians off the streets.  This modest credit is critical for low-income seniors and people with disabilities who rent their homes.

Tell your Legislators: This is the wrong time to balance the state budget on the backs of Missouri's most vulnerable citizens.

The fate of this essential credit will be decided in a special legislative session next week. Tell your legislator now.

  • Invite Senator McCaskill to meet with community stakeholders and public workers

Write an invitation to Senator McCaskill to meet with community stakeholders and public workers before a deal is cut

Community stakeholders and members of  the American Federal Government Employees Union (AFGE) want Senator Claire McCaskill to meet with them to voice their concerns about the budget. Invite Senator McCaskill to come to this meeting, before Congress cuts a deal!

Please add 1 or 2 sentences about the impact the cuts will have on your community. What services do you, your families and neighbors rely on that federal employees provide? The Veterans Administration Benefits Office? Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are all serviced by federally funded workers. What would happen to the quality of their service if their staffing was cut by 10-15% or more?

  • Sign the Petition!

Protect Public Service Workers and Our Quality Water

Missouri American Water, the multinational corporation that holds the contract to serve St. Louis County, wants to cut corners with our critical water supply.

They want to transfer family-supporting, skilled, union jobs to low-paying, non-union facilities. Further, they want to consolidate jobs- that would compromise customer service, lead to longer wait times and eliminate good paying jobs for the St. Louis area.

Their workers are blowing the whistle! Members of the Utility Workers Union of America Local 335 ask you to sign this petition to keep our water safe.

Tell the Missouri Public Service Commission to protect our water from corporations putting profits before the public interest - in St. Louis County and everywhere in the state.

Please forward this petition to inform your friends, co-workers and family and encourage them to sign!

HB 61 passed in the House. We have to make sure our State Senators hear from us!

This page is for Missourians who know every penny counts!

In 2006, 76.4% of Missourians voted to pass Proposition B to raise the minimum wage in Missouri. Attached to the bill was a Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA)- to protect our most vulnerable workers by annually raising the minimum wage with inflation.

Every year since 2006, Missouri legislators have tried to strip our minimum wage in some way: tipped employees, the COLA, or young workers have all been targeted by the Pro-Business, Anti-Worker lobbyists.

Now, House Bill 61 and Senate Bill 110 threaten to repeal the Minimum Wage that YOU voted for- by removing the annual cost of living increase. That means when the economy recovers, our lowest paid workers will fall further behind every year.

Minimum Wage Repeal Bill Passed in the House

Find out if your legislator deserves to be "Thanked or "Spanked"

The Missouri House of Representatives PASSED HB 61, which repeals the minimum wage YOU voted for in 2006 by a 3-1 margin.

All the Democrats stood by the will of the voters and nine Republicans showed independence from their leadership and joined them!

Unforunately for them, we don't sit in silence when they sell us out.

To find what your legislator deserves, type in your address below. You will then be able to either "thank" or "spank" your legislator. Remember- they are equally important.

A union supporter at our "Donuts for Durham" event. Bus drivers working for Durham School Services in Kansas City organized into Teamsters Local 838 in February of 2010. (Above)

Right-to-Work-for-Less would undermine Local unions ability to bargain strong contracts.

Weaker contracts means lower wages and benefits for workers in the union

Lower union wages would drive down average wages for ALL workers in the state, since non-union employers have to compete with union employers for a skilled work force.

In a partisan show, the Missouri House and Senate wasted taxpayer money passing resolutions to try to bully Attorney General Koster into suing the federal government over the Affordable Care Act.

Attorney General Koster has so far done the wise thing and stayed out of these lawsuits. However, his recent comments show he needs to hear from voters.

Any leaders who drag Missouri into unnecessary, costly, and partisan lawsuits are working against the interests of Missouri citizens who are already benefitting from the new health care law.

Attorney General Koster received the testimony of dozens of taxpaying citizens who testified against Senate Resolution 27.Listen to their compelling testimony!
