Take Action to Stop Lay-offs at AT&T!
Send AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson a message, "Stop the Lay-offs NOW"!
While workers at Verizon and Verizon Wireless have been fighting for dignity and respect since last summer, workers at AT&T are facing attacks of their own. In the last month, the company has targeted over 740 union workers, primarily in the southern region of the country, to lay-off despite reporting record profits this quarter. In 2011, their revenues soared to $126.7 billion, and the CEO—Randall Stephenson made over $27 million in 2011.
These multinational communications giants cannot be allowed to continue undermining workers’ standards of living.
Inspired by the efforts of Verizon workers last summer, Atlanta Jobs with Justice and Occupy Atlanta joined the Communications Workers of America Local 3204, and others throughout the community to demand AT&T rescind all lay-offs. They sent the company a letter giving them until February 13th at 11 AM to rollback the lay-offs. Having not received a response, community leaders and the CWA 3204 president Walter D Andrews are confronting the company in Atlanta. They have entered the AT&T Atlanta headquarters and are refusing to leave until every single job cut is rescinded. Simultaneously, an occupation with tents is being set up outside of the building.
