Greetings
Here is hoping you enjoyed a safe holiday weekend. As we reflect on the birthday of the USA, we also need to recognize that our freedom to organize and engage in collective bargaining is at risk. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives us the right of free assembly. The Preamble to the Constitution begins with the words “We the people, in order to form a perfect union….” The founders of this great country understood the importance of these rights and this week we honored their legacy and our great nation.
It is also time to stop and reflect on the sacrifices many are making every day to keep us free. Thank you!!
AFA News
Recently our Flight Attendant Union was strengthened by the addition of the Continental and the Continental Micronesia Flight Attendants. We are very pleased to have these Flight Attendants join as a part of AFA and the new United Airlines. Flight Attendant together in the only Flight Attendant Union, AFA, means we stand stronger today to proudly represent our profession. AFA was elected with 55.1%of the vote on 88% voter participation. A copy of the certified election results will be posted when provided by the National Mediation Board. As we welcome our new colleagues our combined strength is greater than ever and we are poised to make significant strides for Flight Attendants and their families. With approximately 25,000 Flight Attendants, only 65 voted NO UNION-which is one-quarter of 1% of the total eligible voters!! The excitement and energy surrounding this election has been incredible as Flight Attendants recall and learn for the first time the work the Association of Flight Attendants has done to build the profession we love. We are stronger than ever and ready to make the most out of future together.
Our union honors difference of opinion and ideas. In an atmosphere of mutual respect, differences can lead to creativity, newness and growth. We are one and it does not matter how we got here- it matter how we move forward as we respect, honor and welcome the contributions of every Flight Attendant.
Ok-what does that mean to me? As Delta Flight Attendants and AFA supporters, it is validation of what we know- there is ONE union for Flight Attendants and that is AFA!! The addition of these new members makes our voice that much louder and prouder going in to the future-your future- our future!!!
NMB News
We have been advised by the NMB that they are beginning their investigation into our charges of management interference in our election. If called upon by an investigator, know that your involvement in the process is confidential and know that no one at Delta or AFA will be privy to your testimony. While we wait out the process, does that mean AFA does nothing? NO! We now have new email address and value your input- volunteer@deltaafa.org . Please participate so we know your thoughts and you can be engaged in this critical campaign.
Coming Soon/Under Construction
Is Delta management violating its Work Rules? Is Delta management violating selective parts of the former NWA/AFA contract? Need a place to register these complaints?
At deltaafa.org , we will soon have a form for you to help record and track these violations. It will be a fill in, click and file form. This form should be up and running in the next two weeks. We welcome your feedback on this form.
Delta Propaganda
Recently Richard Anderson appeared on FOX NEWS NETWORK to continue his attack on unions and the NMB. He continues to announce that Delta has the happiest workforce who “resoundingly rejected” unions. NOT SO SURE OF THAT RICHARD-new math? The margin in our election was less than 1%. He even made what can only be a threat and we quote “We are going to win- no matter what.” That would imply that Delta management has not nor will they play by the rules!
In Closing
Please know everyone at AFA is poised and ready to bring representation to the Delta Flight Attendants. When the NMB acknowledges what we always knew and Richard Anderson reaffirmed- Delta management interfered in the election process- the real work will begin and we will need YOU. Provide your ideas and feedback at volunteer@deltaafa.org .
Until that happens fly safe and take care of each other.
