Dear Supporter,
Republicans in the Missouri State Senate have spoken, and their message is clear: Unions shouldn't be able to advocate on behalf of their members.
On Thursday, Missouri Senate Republicans passed legislation commonly referred to as "Paycheck Deception." The Paycheck Deception bill that passed, SB202, restricts public workers' right to make voluntary contributions and participate in the political process. This is a direct attack on workers, and the NALC will not sit idly by and watch while Missouri joins the fleet of states seeking to bust unions.
Today, we're seeing inspiring levels of involvement from union members and leaders in states like Ohio and Wisconsin. Workers are uniting to recall eight Republican state senators in Wisconsin and they're coming together to place the destructive, union-busting SB 5 on a ballot in Ohio to achieve a citizen’s veto. Imagine how helpless the dedicated nurses, teachers and firefighters in those states would be if they were restricted by law from participating in those efforts.
SB202 is the start of a concerted effort by anti-worker legislators to do away with unions in Missouri altogether.
The bill now moves to the Missouri House, where it will be debated over the coming days. It will take a small effort to stop these attacks, compared with the sacrifices made to gain these rights in the first place. But an organized effort by workers is the only thing that can protect the balance in a system that CEOs (and the politicians they paid millions to elect) want to tip away from workers and back toward the wealthy.
Take action now. Call your legislator and urge them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 202
