The NALC e-Activist Network

Dear e-Activist,

Last week I sent you an e-Activist message that Congress was considering using cuts to postal and federal employees' benefits to pay for H.R. 7, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act of 2012.  Before the United States House of Representatives recessed last night, news broke that Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) did not have the votes to pass the version of H.R. 7 that included a “pay-for” by current and future federal and postal employees.

As you’ll recall, H.R. 3813 had been rolled into the transportation bill to offset some of the costs and was a direct attack on federal and postal employees and their pensions.  These hits would effectively cut the take-home pay for all federal and postal employees.

As of now, the Senate is expected to pass their version of the transportation bill, which does not include these hits, early next week.   If the Senate is successful, the House has indicated that it will take up the Senate version when they return to DC.  I will keep you posted if this changes at all.

Thank you for your continued dedication to this union.

In Solidarity,

Fredric V. Rolando

President
