In mid July, ExxonMobil fired USW Local 13-2001 President Ricky Brooks and Vice President Mark Schubert based on statements that were allegedly made in a new employee orientation. We believe that the dismissal is without cause and an outrageous attempt to undermine our union as Local 13-2001 prepares to enter an important round of contract negotiations.

Rick and Mark have a long history of serving as strong and effective union leaders. Both have dedicated their working careers to organizing, to making their refinery safer for their co-workers and their community, and to maintaining a decent standard of living for the next generation of workers. Throughout those years both Ricky and Mark have earned a solid reputation for conducting themselves with dignity and engaging their union sisters and brothers, non-union co-workers and management with respect and honesty.

Employers have long resorted to firing key union leaders in an attempt to undermine effective union activism. We can't let ExxonMobile's attack undermine our union's solidarity. Today Ricky and Mark are holding strong and the members of Local 13-2001 are standing behind them and working hard to prepare for the upcoming round of contract negotiations.
